My Epicness Part III awoke at 8.30am to the soft ringing of my phone alarm. Switching it off, I continued to laze around and wriggle like a worm on the bed. The weather was cool, it was early and I was gonna get up in a while and lumber down to the hotel restaurant and grab breakfast before heading out on my invasion of Japan.
Or so I thought...
I stole a quick glance at the hotel clock on the dressing table and realised to my horror that it was in fact 9.30am. I had forgotten to set my time forward an hour. Breakfast ends in an hour and this spells the end of the world for me. There is no way in hell I am missing my stewed daikons, scrambled eggs, bacons, miso soup & freshly brewed tea.
I attempted to roll Feudie off the bed and then made a mad rush to wash up and change. Managed to catch breakfast but was a little emo when they ran out of milk for my cereal /cry.
After breakfast comes the hardest part of the day. This is making our way down to Makuhari Messe via the complicated railway system to our planned destination for the day - Tokyo Game Show 2008. Woohoo~!
Miraculously though, we had hopped onto the correct trains and made it to our destination in about one and a half hours. Feudie had managed to figure out how the railway system works after that one trip and I was pretty thankful he was around to make sure we didn't end up on the wrong side of Japan. I thought I had finally learnt how to read maps until he pointed out to me that I was holding it upside down. Fug this... I threw the map back at him.
There was a crowd outside the station and we decided that we should follow a particular guy in blue holding a very big camera. Can't possibly go wrong with that. Mr Otaku eventually leads us to the exhibition entrance before he ran off excitedly into the distance. Probably saw Doraemon or something.
Kyo was the first sight that greeted us.
Sup Yo. You've come to the right place.
We purchased our tickets at the front of the exhibition hall but was told by a guard that we had to enter via another entrance. We had no idea where that was so we followed a whole bunch of people moving along in one direction. Ended up entering through a back gate with lots of security checks and guards and ducking under a half closed shutter gate (like some refugee camp. You'd expect more out of TGS).
First booth upon entry. Koei & Dynasty Warriors.
KOFXII was on the left side of entrance.
Lookie! Floating Chocobo!
Stuck at Bandai booth for damn long watching adverts.
Snake! (applies to the Q as well)
And my fav banner of the lot, cos it looks so goddamn good.
From a distance it looked like it was doing something obscene.
Q for train tickets after event ended.
We reached Shinjuku at 7pm and Feudie had insisted on helping me look for the building we were looking for the whole of the night before. We did manage to locate it in the end and that was when I realised that I had misread the name of the building to begin with. By the time I actually found the place, it was already half an hour to closing time, but it was more than enuff for me to blow at least $300. Maybe it would have been a good thing if I didn't manage to find the building in the first place...
The salesgirls were so nice that they even escorted me to the lift. I thought she was showing me around. The next thing I knew, I was out of the building and they closed the doors shut. WTF! I'm not done yet! They're so polite that I didn't even notice I was getting chased out of the building. Felt damn cheated.
9pm and shops are closed. So the next best thing to do was to head to the nearest convenience store and stock up on instant noodles and beer. Drop by Lotteria for some super delicious double cheese burgers and off to Las Vegas we go!
I'm so glad I picked Shinjuku Prince Hotel. You can't get a better place if you want good looking men and 24 hour arcades 3 mins away.
Dirt cheap cigs? Hell yea.
Allow Feudie to demonstrate.(somehow I seem to like this pic alot)
